Serenity: Complete - a Firefly/Serenity/BSG Convention
WARNING! HUGE PHOTO POST AHEAD!!!!!

This was Sean's final Firefly convention and it went out with a fucking great filthy bang. Alan Tudyk cancelled unfortunately, but the replacement and surprise guests that attended made the weekend fantastic.

I didn't stay for the closing ceremony and I went to bed on Saturday night unnaturally early, missing Jamie turning up, but I got photoshoots with Jamie, Ron and Adam and all the autographs I wanted. AWESOME.

Eclipse: A Heroes Convention
IMAGE HEAVY POST: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Feel free to link back to this post, but please don't use the photos without permission. Thankyou ♥

Things were a little closer to home for Eclipse, this time it was all happening in Northampton. Despite Greg Grunberg and Zachary Quinto cancelling, the lineup was pretty good and luckily all the guests had tales to tell during the guest talks. I hope this bodes well for Lockdown, the Lost event in 3 weeks time, which currently has a less-than-stellar lineup.

My photos weren't great this time but the conditions weren't fantastic either. Plus I'm STILL learning what the hell this camera can do!

You all know I suck at con reports, so if you've got any questions then fire away. I've got better photos of David Anders over here from Alias Rendezvous 3 in the summer of 2006. Now that was a good weekend.

OK, time to dig out Alias S4 and BSG Razor...

The first signing event of the year, and thank fuck it was a local one, with minimal travel woes and expense! [info]abby_i, [info]meivocis and I got to Coventry reasonably early yesterday morning, avoided any mad rushes and horrendous queues, and had quite a pleasant day.

David Lynch at the London Film Festival
There are a handful of filmmakers who I have followed religiously since I was a teenager - Scorsese, Burton, Spielberg, Tarantino - and Lynch.

A few days ago I went to a talk/Q&A with Lynch, met the man himself, got him to sign a copy of his book, and therefore achieved an ambition I've had for about 15 years.

David Lynch David Lynch

David Lynch - Catching the Big Fish )

Oh, and the following night, I went to see my favourite play by an American writer, David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross at the Apollo theatre in the West End. Jonathan Pryce, who appeared in the film, played Shelly Levine, Aiden Gillen was Ricky Roma, and the whole thing was terrific.

You ever take a dump made you feel like you'd just slept for twelve hours? )

All in all, a fantastic week.

For the first time in three years I've been able to attend a Friday at Collectormania, and it was a pleasant change to be able to wander around the centre with a bit more of a personal bubble than usual. I can't believe Breakout was my last Starfury convention - and as I missed out on G3 (WHY OH WHY) in August, going back to the Thistle seemed like coming home :)

I'd had an epidural-sized injection in my back on the Friday morning so although there was no alcohol to be consumed, there was a guaranteed-pain free event, and it looked like Jonathan M Woodward would be the saving grace of the event since Adam Baldwin and Sean Maher cancelled.

As you know, I'm not good with the reports, but here's my illustrated guide to Sinfinity and a few things I learnt along the way.

Paris
The first time I went to Paris was a very miserable weekend back in 1995, and I really didn't have fond memories at all. I remembered the lusciousness of Notre Dame but I was ill and freezing and generally wanted to be back at home.

A few weeks ago, after I finished working on Oliver!, I flew back to Paris for four days with a happier outlook, better weather and the revelation that my camera is actually quite good. Here's what I saw.

I'll go back and see more of the city one day and I could live there quite happily. Next stops - New York and Venice!

Q&A with Quentin Tarantino
While I was working in Dunstable over the summer I got a very breathless and excited phonecall from [info]meivocis telling me that Quentin Tarantino would be attending a special screening of Death Proof in London - I couldn't believe it. QT is waaaay up there for me - probably just a notch or two below Marty.

Yesterday we set out for Brixton to the rather fantastic Ritzy Cinema where we watched the film, with Quentin, star Zoe Bell and Edgar Wright sitting only a few feet away, then they opened the floor up for questions to the director himself.

Four of my favourite Heroes in London, on the days that I'm actually in the city? Taking advice from people on the Showmasters forum and the NBC site, figured it would be good to head to the London Eye for the promotional photoshoot of the cast, to see if I could get any good shots and perhaps meet the Petrelli brothers, Claire and her father...

Hayden Panettiere, Adrian Pasdar, Milo Ventimiglia and Jack Coleman )

Hayden was very sweet and had LOTS of foundation on. Jack was extremely handsome and friendly. Adrian was just sex on a stick, and Milo looked moody and grumpy for most of the time. Although it didn't help that some fan insisted on poking their folder into his skull in the hope that he might sign it.

I met them all again on Sunday and the experience was horrible. Post about LFACC to come later, for now I'm just going to enjoy the London Eye experience as it was good to meet my favourite Heroes.

A real life post will come soon to explain where I've been and what I've been doing - hope everyone is well and catch up with you all soon.

Last year I saw Kane play live at Starfury's Not Fade Away event. I didn't think I'd get to see them live again, especially as I missed Decalogy this weekend. But [info]meivocis, [info]dontburnhot and her bro went to Birmingham's Barfly with me tonight to see their acoustic set.

I just got back about an hour ago, I'm very tired, very happy, and as per usual I'll leave the details to others. What you will find here, however, is a little collection of photos of Christian and Steve that I'll treasure. We met the guys after the gig and I'm now going to collapse in my bed to watch Friday Night Lights a very happy girl.

OK, a little more detail than just 'BEST GIG OF MY LIFE'. This was my first LP gig and I just hoped they'd do a good show. To the envy of most of my Year 9s, and much to the disagreement of my bank balance, [info]meivocis and I had paid £72.50 each for standing tickets at the Astoria, London. To add to the insanity, it was the night before the most important day in the work calendar, where I needed to be awake, alert and on top form. Whoops.

In the words of [info]abby_i, Milton Keynes sucks donkey balls. Or rather, spending 10 hours in the shopping centre sucks donkey balls, waiting six hours for photos to be printed and for queues to die down. I'd been running on a few hours sleep since Linkin Park on Thursday so today was a bit of an effort. Fuelling my day were caffeine shots, a nice hug from James Marsters, a suspicious sexual tension between Mark Lutz and George Hertzberg.

Book Launch and Reading at the National Theatre, London
PEN is an organisation concerned with writers around the world who have been incarcerated, tortured, and in some cases executed because of their writings and beliefs. A new book has been published, Another Sky: Voices of Conscience from Around the World which is a collection of writings from authors which graphically describe a life changed by interrogation, imprisonment and their determination to survive and speak out.

On April 2nd 2007 the National Theatre, London hosted a launch event for the new book, accompanied by readings and signings by several British actors and writers who in some cases knew the prisoners personally. What started as an excuse to meet Michael Palin became a very interesting evening.
